"A Computer Animated Hand"- History of 3D Graphics

"A Computer Animated Hand" is a short animated film created by Edwin Catmull and Fred Parke. The animation was created in 1972 and it is the earliest 3D graphics created ever. Ed generated 3D image from his plaster replica hand onto which he mapped the polygons that make up the 3D image/model. He also made fundamental computer graphics discoveries such as anti-aliasing, texture mapping, and Z-buffering. These discoveries led him to make the first 3d animation film. This was also Catmull's first contribution to the film industry as the animated film was incorporated in the Futureworld, a 1976 science-fiction movie.
